- DANCING ALL THE WAY
TO BLACKPOOL
First to actually use the new Hall were Joe and Sash.
Joe and Sash are ballroom dancers and very good
ones too. In fact they are the North of England Under 21 Latin
Champions. They represented England and danced in the IDSF
Open Amateur Latin in Slovakia and placed 16th. So before going
off to the World Championships in Blackpool they were pleased to
be able to use the Hall to get in an extra practice. They loved
the spring in the wooden floor and the space to move around, and
hope to be able to use the Hall regularly for practice. Joe
(Joseph Hopwood) is the son of Paul and Ruth, who is a member of
our congregation and Lay Chairman of the PCC. Some of you will
remember the demonstration Joe gave in the old Hall some years
ago. He has been dancing with Sash (Alexandra Hawley) since
September 2008.
- FIRST BOOKING FOR
NEW HALL
First to book the new Hall was Katie Zwalf for MiM Music.
MiM Music is a pre-school singing and music-making group, aimed
at families and childminders with twins (or more) and children
close in age (0-4years). The idea behind MiM Music is to give
both/all one’s children equal access to music in a relaxed and
fun way with like-minded people who won't bat an eyelid if one’s
struggling to contain two or more excitable/crying children!
It was created by Katie Zwalf , a mum of twin baby boys and a
four-year-old girl, who experienced first-hand the difficulties
of taking part in organised groups with more than one young
child and with only one pair of hands. A typical class lasts
about 45 minutes and starts with a ‘Hello’ song. Action songs,
musical games to develop concepts such as ‘high’ and ‘low’,
‘loud’ and ’quiet’ and experimentation with sound using handheld
musical instruments follow. Then after a ‘goodbye’ song, there
is the opportunity to chat and swap tips over a drink. For more

- A 70's Reprise
for St James the Deacon
Foundation Stone repositioned
The foundation stone for the current church, laid by the then
Archbishop of York, Dr Donald Coggan on 20th May 1970, has been
repositioned to make room for the new Church Hall. The
stone, originally a medieval masonry coffin lid carved with a
cross Cercelée and given a modern twist by adding the year,
1970, was a gift from St. Maurice’s Church, which used to sit
just outside Monk Bar. The stone is now built into the front of
a chest holding the altar frontals that forms part of the new
curved wall behind the sanctuary. (see pictures right)
